SZA’s Kill Bill’s video brings back Quentin Tarantino’s film to life

First off, what a song though! We love the uncommon vibrato effect in the production, it’s bold and it stands out. Second, the vibrato itself is characterized by its wide range of pitch wobble and slow modulation rate, as well as its unsynchronized modulation waveform with the song’s tempo, making it a prominent and ear-catching feature. I mean, damn! SZA, how’d you come up with that tone of mix?

Low-pass filters with a sound to fall for

The use of a modulated low-pass filter enhances the higher-pitched moments of each modulation cycle. The harmony in “Kill Bill” let’s you follow the ups and downs with a certain pace that’s simply pleasuring. The production choices of bass-heavy balance and repeating four-bar chord pattern highlights the vibrato effect, while avoiding harmonic progressions as a larger-scale songwriting tool. THIS is skills.

A hit song with Tarantino references

We’ve all seen the Kill Bill movies. Right? (If you haven’t, you better get on with that, ’cause it’s kinda epic, okay?) Well, Quentin Tarantino’s work is more than well known for it’s charateristic scenes and production quality of plot twists and more. It’s fun to see SZA waking these memories up, and bringing them back to life. SZA made the music video, inspired by QT, where the video opens in a trailer with SZA’s song “Nobody Gets Me” playing in the background. Out of nowhere comes the full throttle of fires pounding at the trailer out in the dark. From there it’s great to see the references coming back, and we’re not gonna spoil anything more, see for yourself:

SZA – Kill Bill (Official Video) from YouTube

If you haven’t seen the Kill Bill movies, you might think this video’s a bit violent. If you have seen the movies, you know that this is the mild version coming through the screen…

A talented duo behind the scenes of “Kill Bill”

The talented duo of Christian Breslauer and Luga Podesta are behind the direction and production of “Kill Bill”! These guys have already made some amazing hit videos together, such as Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby” and Lizzo’s “About Damn Time”. Luga produces through his banner London Alley Entertainment with Andrew Lerios and Mike Breslauer, and we’re amazed by the results. When talented minds get together, this happens!

Be sure to listen to SZA and rate the song for yourself, enjoy!
