Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Iggy Pop’s “Raw Power,” a Trip Down “The Passenger’s” Memory Lane Is in Order!

Feels like yesterday when I was just blasting Iggy on an early Christmas morning with my mom lamenting from the kitchen that I needed to tone it down some, if I had even the slightest concern for everyone around me. (I did, so I also did turn it down… a bit) Life was so good back then. When the only worries you’ve got is when your mom says the volume’s too loud, and you’ve gotta save up for the next record by helping out at the local store – That’s when you know, life’s easy.

Listening to the tunes back then, ohhhh gosh wasn’t it fun, sure it’s fun today as well, but with a different tone to it. To simply put it, we all need some Iggy Pop music in our lives to keep us sane amidst the modern time and age.

Iggy Pop is the standard of punk rock that everyone aims to at least claim because surpassing that would also be expecting too much of any artist, no matter how gifted they are. I don’t know if he has been giving his flowers deservedly enough, but one thing I do know for sure is that his album “Raw Power” is one of the best albums in the history of music, if not the best!

I caught a glimpse of his anniversary talk show, and it still excites me that he still has that sense of humor and his blue eyes still glow through a listener’s soul. It just feels good having some Iggy Pop spirit thrown around. He’s been a real artist from the beginning, and not only with his songs; He’s a songwriter, singer, musician, worked in radio and with acting. The “Godfather” of Punk has many talents and it’s crazy to think that he’s been active since the 60’s. What a champ!

I had an emotional moment a few moments ago when I just hit the play button and “The Passenger” started streaming in…the voice and melody of unadulterated integrity that allows you to bask in the glory of the ‘70s and the tales of Iggy Pop’s triumph!

When you are done listening to this indescribably ear-worming masterpiece, it pains your heart, as you are hit with a self-inflicted dose of reality: music like this is so rare. Will there ever be another “Passenger”. I doubt that.

It is that spark in a delivery like this that really lit a thousand musical fuses- so much modern music has been influenced by this very same spark…just think about it as you follow the link below for a memorable trip to the heart of paradise!
